Burriana Sports Pavillion by Aquidos Architects

Aquidos Architects have designed new sports pavilion in Burriana, Spain. The new pavilion creates new relationship with its neighborhood. The transparent facade of the ground floor brings more communication between the street and the interior of the pavilion. It brings the sport activities to the street. The pavilion brings a new atmosphere to a traditional neighborhood. Its objective is to gather people and boost the sport activities in the community.

Concrete is used as bulk material, heavy, rough and continuous. The concrete façade defines a floating pavilion. The use of precast panels has allowed the construction on a tight schedule. For the panels craving drawings were use 3 molds with specific design standards with the aim of emphasizing the heterogeneity and imperfection of the material. These lines remind us the concealing joints between pieces and causing a feeling of continuity. The glass expresses lightness, brightness and color diversity.

The access to the sports complex is from the main Street that connects the center of the village, to an outdoor transition garden zone which is also used as a terrace for the new bar and exterior foyer. The new building is slightly hidden on access. It’s attached to the back of the rostrum of the football field and provides the main facade to the street Miguel Ángel. The new sports facilities are a succession of different elements: the new pavilion in the corner is like a suspended concrete box; the stairs are as a vertical milestone in the street; the low rise gym is like its metal framework. The central body concentrates all the facilities of the sports courts: 8 changing rooms for teams, 5 individual dressing rooms, an infirmary, a gym and a track, all managed together from a single point of control.
